The project objectives are:
- To become more aware of and sensitive to the different forms and effects of trauma on society, family and the individual.
- To learn more about narratology from both a social studies’ and a literacy/cultural studies’ perspective.
- To learn more about the differences and similarities between societies in understanding certain notions and concepts as well as the varying significance of concepts like trauma, coming to terms with the past, migration and loss of the homeland, and family relations and life.
- Questioning own perceptions and values about oneself/one’s culture and the other cultures involved.
- To learn basic methods of conducting and analyzing narrative interviews.
- Starting to learn to contextualize current social behavior with the societal, political and historical conditions of a society.
- Allowing a better and more precise understanding of the society of the partner as well as one’s own society – seen through the lenses of the partner.
- Engaging Jordanian and German students in the fruitful discussion on such a highly important topic that they might not be able to discuss in any of their regular classes.
The project will enhance the participation of students not only in the sessions of the summer school, but also in bringing in ideas that are relevant to them, their academic interests and their environment.
